Ondřej Kukal

Skladatel, dirigent a houslista Ondřej Kukal je považován za jednu z nejvýraznějších uměleckých osobností střední generace. Je absolventem Pražské konzervatoře a Akademie múzických umění v Praze. V oboru hra na housle je žákem prof. Josefa Vlacha, kompozici studoval u Jindřicha Felda, dirigování u Vladimíra Válka.

V letech 1985-1995 působil jako člen Nového Vlachova kvarteta, v letech 1991-1996 jako šéfdirigent Jihočeské komorní filharmonie České Budějovice. V roce 1993 se stal dirigentem Českého komorního orchestru, založeného v roce 1946 Václavem Talichem, v roce 1996 stálým dirigentem Symfonického orchestru Českého rozhlasu a 7 let byl koncertním mistrem Pražského komorního orchestru bez dirigenta.
V roce 1999 obdržel stipendium Bavorské vlády k půlročnímu tvůrčímu pobytu v německém Bambergu. Od roku 2002 je Ondřej Kukal šéfdirigentem Filharmonie Hradec Králové. Je pravidelným hostem předních českých orchestrů - České filharmonie, Symfonického orchestru hl. m. Prahy FOK, Státní filharmonie Brno, Symfonického orchestru Českého rozhlasu, spolupracuje se Slovenskou filharmonií aj.

Dirigoval též BBC Symphony Orchestra. V roce 2006 řídil zahajovací koncert mezinárodního hudebního festivalu Pražské jaro, přičemž kritika přirovnala Kukalovo provedení Mé Vlasti ke kreacím Rafaela Kubelíka. Většinu jeho skladatelské produkce nahrál Český rozhlas, řada skladeb je dostupná na CD. Clarinettino-Concertino pro klarinet a smyčce Ondřeje Kukala získalo cenu Classic 94, Symfonie č. 1 byla oceněna Výroční cenou OSA za rok 2005 a 1. smyčcový kvartet cenou Generace v roce 1989.

Since the 2002/2003 season Ondřej Kukal (born 1964), a composer, conductor and violinist, has been the chief conductor of the Philharmony Hradec Kralove. He is considered one of the most profound art personalities of his generation. O. Kukal, a graduate of the Academy of Music in Prague and AMU (Academy of Performing Arts) in Prague, a student of Prof. Josef Vlach (violin) and Jindřich Feld (composition) was a member of the New Vlach Quartet from 1985-1995 and the chief conductor of the South Bohemia Chamber Philharmonic of České Budějovice from 1991-1996. In 1993, he became a conductor of the Czech Chamber Orchestra, founded in 1946 by Václav Talich. Since 1996, he has been a regular conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Czech Radio and a concerto maestro of the Prague Chamber Orchestra without a Conductor. Often, he is a guest of leading Czech orchestras –Czech Philharmonic, the FOK Symphony Orchestra of Prague, the Brno State Philharmonic and others. He was also a guest of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Ondřej Kukal is a conductor-instrumentalist of the Heinz Holliger or Heinrich Schiff type. Philharmony Hradec Kralove selected him as its leader for his exceptional knowledge of instrumental problems and his ability for chamber detailed carving of orchestral sound. Kukal’s conducting follows the best traditions of Czech reproduction art from Josef Vlach to Václav Talich.

String Quartet No. 1 Op. 9 by Ondřej Kukal received an award at the Generace (Generation) composers’ competition in 1989; his Clarinettino-Concertino composition for clarinet and string won the Classic 94 prize. In 1999, Kukal was granted a scholarship by the Bavarian government for a six-month constructive stay in Bamberg, where he finished his first symphony, which premiered in 2000 at the International Festival of Student Orchestras in Berlin. Most of his composing production was recorded by Czech Radio; a number of compositions is available on CD. He has also performed in BBC Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 Ondřej Kukal has conducted the opening concert of Prague Spring Festival.

Geboren 1964, studierte Ondřej Kukal (Chefdirigent) in Prag am Konservatorium sowie an der Akademie der musikalischen Künste Geige und Komposition. Dazu selbst äußerte dazu: „ Während meines Violin- und Kompositionsstudiums hatte ich grosse Lust, mir selbst eine Aufgabe zu stellen. Ich versuchte, auf dem Instrument alle Stimmungen darzustellen, die ich erlebt hatte, wobei ich mich auf die Form der großen Meister stützte. Mein Violinstudium konnte ich mit der Interpretation meiner eigenen Komposition abschließen. Ich freue mich, dass ich später auch andere interpreten gefunden habe.“ Von 1985 bis 1995 war er Mitglied des Neuen Vlach-Quartetts, von 1991 bis 1996 Chefdirigent der Südböhmischen Kammerphilharmonie České Budějovice. 1993 wurde er Dirigent des Tschechischen Kammerorchesters. Seit 1996 dirigiert er beim Symhonieorchester des Tschechischen Rundfunks und ist Konzertmeister des Prager Kammerorchesters. Überdies ist er Gastdirigent anderer bedeutender tschechischer Orchester sowie des BBC Symphony Orchestra. Seit des Saison 2002/2003 leitet er als Chefdirigent die Filharmonie Hradec Králové, die Ostböhmische Philharmonie Königgrätz.

Ondřej Kukal, der mittlerweile u.a. ein umfangreiches kammermusikalisches Werk vorweisen kann, erhielt Auszeichnungen für mehrere seine Kompositionen, so u.a. 1989 beim Komponistenwettbewerb „Generationen“ und 2000 auf dem Internationalen Festival der Studentenorchester in Berlin. 1999 lebte er und arbeitete er als Stipendiat im Internationalen Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Bamberg. In dieser Zeit schrieb er seine erste Symphonie, die im Jahr 2000 auf dem Internationalen Festival der Studentenorchester in Berlin im Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt gespielt und ausgezeichnet wurde.

2006 dirigierte Ondřej Kukal das Öffnungskonzert der Prager Frühling Musikfestival.
